My iPod Mini is stuck in Diagnostic Mode. I've tried the instructions from Apple's website -- slide it to "hold" then back, press center select and menu simultaneously, wait 10 seconds. That does not work. It just starts a memory test.

    Help?

My place of employment is looking to hire customer service agents. As with most customer service positions, we need people who are patient, tactful, and have a generally pleasant phone demeanor.

    http://www.dodgeco.com/

Since the job entails selling funeral and embalming supplies, you should be prepared to handle requests and answer questions regarding this industry. [Read: if the thought of death makes you queasy, this is probably not a good job for you.] There is no special experience you need -- just the ability and desire to learn about it.

We're hiring immediately. The benefits are *excellent* by the way. I believe we're primarily looking for full time, but part time might work too.

If you'd like further details let me know! I'm screening all comments... please leave contact information (phone/e-mail), or a link to a resume if you have it.

Feel free to mention this to anyone you think may be interested. :)

I'm sweeping my friends list. Of course, no offense intended to anyone, but I just don't check here often enough to keep up with all these blogs.

If you want to keep reading mine, please speak up now... or if you are a lurky lurking lurker, now would be a good time to be added if you care that much. :)

(I can't guarantee I'll post/read often. I'd like to check in here more, make frequent posts and all that, but my time is pretty limited, and I find myself more likely to get distracted trying to read through weeks of posts and then I don't get around to making my own...)

    From spaceweather.com:

DESCENDING SPACE JUNK: Almost exactly one year ago, on July 23, 2007, International Space Station astronauts threw an obsolete, refrigerator-sized ammonia reservoir overboard. The 1400-lb piece of space junk has been circling Earth ever since and now, in July 2008, its orbit has decayed so much that it has become an easy naked-eye target for backyard sky watchers. The "Early Ammonia Servicer" (EAS for short) is almost as bright as the stars of the Big Dipper and growing brighter as it descends. Today's edition of http://spaceweather.com displays photos of the EAS, which is expected to burn up in Earth's atmosphere in late 2008 or early 2009. Readers who wish to see the EAS with their own eyes should check the Simple Satellite Tracker for flyby times: http://spaceweather.com/flybys. Europeans are favored with flybys this week, North Americans next week.

In the basement of my work is an absolute treasure trove of funeral antiquities. Willow baskets, ice compartment caskets from the 1800's, original Brockport drying boards, and many, many old bottles of embalming chemicals.

My first question was why is this not open to the public? Well, the fact that it's nestled in by the chem labs and the packing/shipping areas makes it a bit difficult to allow random folks in for obvious safety reasons.

And my second was... can I make a virtual mueum??

The answer would seem to be that I can indeed once we upgrade to better servers and service and all that fun stuff, since I'm going to be updating the site anyway.

Perhaps in the future if I get ambitious enough I can arrange for a temporary exhibit to be set up somewhere...

NYTimes: M.I.T. Sues Frank Gehry, Citing Flaws in Center He Designed

By ROBIN POGREBIN and KATIE ZEZIMA
    Published: November 7, 2007

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has sued the architect Frank Gehry and a construction company, claiming that “design and construction failures” in the institute’s $300 million Stata Center resulted in pervasive leaks, cracks and drainage problems that have required costly repairs.

The center, which features angular sections that appear to be falling on top of one another, opened to great acclaim in the spring of 2004. Mr. Gehry once said that it “looks like a party of drunken robots got together to celebrate.”
